Federal Investment in Civil Infrastructure - Is it Enough?

 

 

 

 

 

At the end of June, the Federal Government, in partnership with State Governments, announced an additional $1.9 billion of investment in civil infrastructure. We have compiled a brief overview of where this investment is going and what projects are happening in each state, but is it enough?

New South Wales

$1.02 billion invested including:

  • $240 million to fix 11 congestion hotspots around Sydney
  • $382 million to help local councils upgrade roads across regional NSW
  • $398 million for road safety projects in regional areas
  • Supporting 5,450 jobs across NSW

Victoria

$525 million invested including:

  • $178 million towards Regional Rail
  • $70.6 million Princes Highway East
  • Support more than 200 jobs

South Australia

$145 million invested including:

  • $52 million on delivering pavement treatments, shoulder sealing and safety enhancements
  • $12 million higher-capacity North-South Freight Route bypassing Adelaide
  • Support more than 200 jobs

Tasmania

$46 million invested including:

  • $8 million is going towards main road and highway enhancements
  • $7.2 million will go towards the widening of Railton Main Road and Richmond Road
  • $6 million on Midland Highway pedestrian underpass
  • Heavy vehicle rest areas and upgrading of Huon Highway and Sandfly Road junction

Northern Territory

$53 million invested including:

  • Safety works along the Stuart, Barkly and Victoria Highways
  • Widening and sealing shoulders at critical points along Litchfield Park Road

Queensland

$415 million invested including:

  • Upgrading Burke and Gregory Developmental roads as well as smaller works right across the regional network to improve safety, accessibility and flood immunity
  • Fixes for projects like the Gateway Motorway Flyover
  • Support 700 jobs

Australian Capital Territory

$35 million invested including:

  • Upgrading intersections Territory-wide
  • Improving Northbourne Avenue
  • Delivering a new Mitchell light rail stop
  • Tuggeranong Parkway safety upgrades

Western Australia

$223 million invested including:

  • Great Eastern and Bussell Highways, Exmouth Road and Toodyay Road upgrades
  • Fixes to Thomas Road
  • Dedicated road safety package right across regional WA
  • Support more than 1,000 jobs
